Jesus does some intense teaching here and we have it recorded in chapters 22 – 25 of Matthew. He tells many parables, mostly about being ready for His return, which was a bit odd when you think about it, because He had not gone away yet!!!!! We need to understand that He was teaching in a public place (possibly in the Temple court from which He had ejected the boot sale) and His listeners were the religious leaders as well as the ordinary people. In chapter 22v1 -14, He tells the story of His own experience here on earth, but in a parable form. The story made the religious people hate Jesus because they knew He was pointing them out.
Again Jesus spent the evening at Bethany, this time in the home of Simon the leper. (I wonder if this was a nickname after Jesus had healed him) The woman pouring the oil caused all sorts of responses, probably some were embarrassed, some might have been jealous of Jesus attention to her, whatever it was, Jesus accepted the gift as a preparation for His coming death, and promised that whenever people read this story, they would read of her act of worship, and here we are reading it!!!

Selah:

Read the parable and decide who all the characters are, ie the King, his Son, the guests.

Which sort of guest are you?

If Jesus was around today as a human being, what present would you give Him?

The present I would give him is love and devotion and encourage others to do the same.
