Thanks for you comment. This networking is all new to me. I may have accidently already sent half a comment! I tend to leave this kind of thing to the younger generation! (I've just realised I have to keep your original message saved in my toolbar and write this in a separate page.)
We shall certainly pray for you and particularly for that the Lord will strengthen you and give you all wisdom as you seek to live out your life for Jesus with your family. May you know the right time to speak and the right time to let your deeds do the speaking! (1Peter 3:1-2). May the Spirit of Christ the Healer be present in your home.
The issue of a night shelter for homeless people is quite fraught. Here are some of the issues:
There is no agreement on how many rough sleepers there actually are. A recent sweep with police, council and the Salvation Army revealed two. The Salvation Army insist that the number is at least 20, but that they are too well hidden to be found out.
The health and safety issue these days makes it hugely problematic for ordinary good hearted people to open up their premises. 'Never mind the fact that a park bench is worse, what if someone sued you because they were hurt in a drunken fight?' I visited the night shleter at St Patrick's in Hove a while ago and it was a tightly organised and supervised affair which drew on trained and paid staff, rather than well meaning volunteers.
We also visited the Worthing Churches Housing Trust . They have a well run day centre and three referral residential centres to help people regain independent living. Their experience was that a night shelter programme actually reinforced the rough sleeping habit and did not help to break the cycle. It is a matter of dispute among people who deal with homelessness.
I would be really interested to meet your daughter to find out more about Carr Gomm. I think they originally had a Christian foundation, but I'm not sure if that is still evident. If Carr Gomm were prepared to back the project and provide the expertise then it might be possible that some churches would be willing to open their premises and provide volunteer support (trained and supervised by Carr Gomm?).
A small group of us are in the process of setting up ECHO (Eastbourne Christain Housing Organisation). The aim is to purchase properties to help house people in need. The present housing downturn makes the business plan look different, but we are still moving forward. There is a possibility that we might join forces with Life (a pro-life group) to set up a home for teenage pregnant single mothers to help them become established as parents. There is nothing like this in Eastbourne at the moment. The YMCA are possible partners. Tony Jackson is the chair of the ECHO trustees. Charity Registration is underway.
On another matter, I remember ages ago mentioning the possibility of baptism to you. I wonder if you had thought any further.
we have just done the rota for the next term but will add you to the next one. thank you

Now here's hoping I press the right button,
Every blessing,
