Living Stones Community Church

Following Jesus, Serving the Community, Resourcing the Church, Touching Nations

The term 'worldview' is often used at Living Stones. What did you think about Steve Goss' explaination? Has it made you look at your own worldview and the things that shape it?

My worldview is that I have always believed that everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and we should leave them in peace and not try to change them. That is my theory, but in reality I suffer great anguish becuse I can not get people t0 share my beliefs. We can only show them there is a better way by example, by showing them what a difference Christ makes in our lives. However, I do believe that people, especially my own nearest and dearest, who are non believers would be much happier if they could believe and I want this more than anything for everyone, but especially my loved ones.
I sometimes face some harsh condemnations from them for having a strong faith, bringing up questions about my mental health for example, all I can say to them is that my faith gives me great happiness, peace and joy and enables me to cope with life far better. I can only ask them and all non believers to just leave the door open and not dismiss it completely. We can only go ahead, like Jesus, in front, leading the way, Like Simon Of Cyrene carrying the cross behind Jesus.

Dear Helena,
Yes i agree, everyone is entitled to believe what they want, even though they are wrong, but that shouldn't stop us from believing that one day everyone on this earth will turn back to God.
In the meantime I think all we can do is show them by the way we love them that there is something different about the way we live our lives every moment of each day.
Your family may misunderstand you and I do know how that feels but you have the truth and they cannot take that away from you unless you let them.
We may not always understand why things are the way they are but you know, God is always aware and His presence is always with each one of us.He never has an appointment elsewhere.
I know words are easy but I do hope this gives you some comfort.
A few years ago I was pleading with the Lord to save my eldest son so that he would know what his Dad, myself and his younger brother know. Like you it is my deepest longing for him and his family and it seems as though it can never be, but the Lord spoke to me and on His Word I rest.
He said, " All your children shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children."
ISAIAH CHAPTER 54 VERSE 13. Maybe this is for you too.

Just because you can't see the air it doesn't stop you breathing. Just as you can't see God working it doesn't stop you believing.

Thank you for your kindness, Cynthia, I strongly believe myself that God is working even though we can't see.
This is the problem with my husband and children, they are basically what Steve Goss terms as Modernists. If they can't see it touch it or feel it, it doesn't exist. They are too intelligent and rational to believe anything else, so they say. Also they feel strongly that I am the same, too intelligent and rational to believe all this stuff.
I have tried to tell them about the Lord but they are so set against it. As I said, The only way I can lead them is by showing how God is in my life and how much better my life is for this. My husband is now saying that he believes there is some higher power there, but he is not sure if it is God or not. I mentioned this to the 3 children, who are 30 plus and have their own little families and they will not believe it, Dad is too intelligent they say.
I continue to have the biblical worldview and will not give up, in fact my thoughts on this are stronger than ever, I think over the last year since i have been with Livingstones.

Thank you Shelley, a discussion about worldviews seems to have turned into a pity party for Helena. This certainly was not my intention and I must aplogise to Steve, who started the discussion again.
I am fine, as I said I have so much strength from my faith and all the lovely people I have met at Livingstones.
We all have a biblical worldview, it would just be nice if we could get more people to have this view too.
As you say, Shelley, we just have to keep praying and not give up.
Love in Christ,
Helena.
